22 January, 2012It amazes me that people who profess to be interested in conversation, in thoughts and in communities of ideas still use Disqus to host the comments on their sites. Did no-one learn the lessons of a decade ago, when we did this before?

I moved to disqus when I rebuilt my blog last year, because of chronic spam problems on a self hosted system, leading to massive database bloating (even though aksimet did a good job of filtering, the database still filled up with 1000’s of spam comments. Disqus works really well, and has been painless. However, you have a valid point – outsourced comment systems can go away, so maybe I ought to consider scraping them from time to time so I have a an archive!
