Books of December 2024

08 January, 2025

Two recommendations from people at work this month!

The Centre - interesting but by the end I really disliked the main character, which is a bit of a shame since she's sort of touted in-book as a strong, diverse, open-minded lead and it gave me real concerns about the author. I can't tell whether that means it was well-written or not. Some nice concepts though and I didn't quite guess the ending right!

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow - I enjoyed about half of this book and most of the rest needed to have been edited out - it was just way too baggy. I don't know this author but apparently she's won several awards and so I suspect that, as with so many other books following award-winners in the past, the editors who previously made those earlier books so good have backed off here and the whole thing is worse for it. Despite being about a bunch of topics I am super-interested in reading about and having some good characters, this felt every single one of its 478 pages.
